Steroid and antibiotic ointment
Ointment 5 g
Conditions with pus: eczema, dermatitis, prickly heat, rashes from contact with irritants (kabure), chilblains, insect bites, and hives. Pus-forming skin diseases: impetigo, boils (furuncles), and folliculitis.
Warnings & Precautions
This product is a skin disease medication and must not be used as make-up or aftershave. Using it in large doses or for prolonged periods β particularly on the face β may cause acne, pimples, facial redness or swelling, rough skin, or increased hair growth. Once symptoms have improved, do not continue using unnecessarily.
Active Ingredients (per 1 g)
Fluocinolone acetonide (synthetic adrenocorticosteroid) 0.25 mg
Fradiomycin sulfate (antibiotic) 3.5 mg (titer)
Inactive Ingredients
Paraben, polyethylene glycol laurate, propylene glycol, white beeswax, petrolatum
Instructions for Use
- βApply an appropriate amount to the affected area 1 to several times a day.
- βFor children, use under adult supervision.
- βWhen applying to diaper rash areas, do not use tight-fitting or plastic-sealed diapers or pants over the treated area.
- βAvoid contact with latex rubber products.
- βSelf-care guide from the package insert: apply an appropriate amount usually 2 times a day, or about 3 times a day if symptoms are severe. As symptoms get better, use it less often.
- βAn appropriate amount: a line squeezed from the tube along an adult's index finger, from the tip to the first joint (about 0.5 g), spread over an area about the size of 2 adult palms. Decide the amount based on the size of the affected area.
- βDo not use for more than 1 week.
- βIf the affected area is larger than 2β3 of the user's palms, it may be beyond self-care. Consult a doctor, pharmacist, or registered salesperson before use.
- βDo not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this product, antibiotics, or adrenocorticosteroids.
- βDo not use on the following areas:
- (1) Chickenpox blisters; skin with athlete's foot, ringworm, or other fungal infections
- (2) Markedly oozing or raw skin
- (3) In or around the eyes
- βDo not apply over a wide area on the face.
- βDo not use as make-up or aftershave.
- βDo not use long-term.
- β Consult a doctor, pharmacist, or registered salesperson before use if you:
- (1) Are under the care of a physician.
- (2) Have ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine or other product.
- (3) Intend to use this product on the face, lips, or other mucous membranes.
- (4) Have an extensively affected area.
- (5) Have severe wounds or burns.
- (6) Are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
- (7) Are elderly.
- βStop use immediately and consult a doctor, pharmacist, or registered salesperson β bringing this package insert with you β if any of the following side effects appear:
- Skin: Rash, redness, itching, or raw skin
- Skin (affected area): Development or worsening of athlete's foot, ringworm, or acne; signs of infection; persistent irritation; or skin becoming white
- βStop use and consult a doctor, pharmacist, or registered salesperson β bringing this package insert with you β if symptoms do not improve after 5 to 6 days of use.
- βAvoid eye contact. If the product enters the eye, rinse immediately with water or lukewarm water. If symptoms are severe, see an ophthalmologist.
- βFor external use only.
Additional Information
Contains fluocinolone acetonide, which the package insert classifies as a "strong" steroid. Steroid creams and ointments are ranked in 5 levels, and 3 of them (weak, mild, and strong) are sold over the counter; strong is the highest of these.
Also contains fradiomycin sulfate, an antibiotic that stops bacteria from growing in areas with pus.
