About Cold Medicine medicines in Japan
Japanese OTC cold medicines (風邪薬) relieve symptoms such as fever, runny nose, sore throat, and cough — they do not treat the underlying virus. This category also includes motion sickness medicines.
Important: These medicines cannot treat influenza (flu). In Japan, antiviral medication for influenza (such as Tamiflu) requires a prescription from a doctor and cannot be purchased over the counter.
